We have had contact from our intrepid adventurers of the Mekong River!!
Message follows…
“Sorry for no contact in the last few days; there are some very rugged and wild places in Laos and Northern Cambodia where internet access is unavailable!! With some parts pretty much like the set of Apocalyse Now…
Dad and I are now in a place called Kratie on the Mekong about 6 hrs bus from Pnom Phen (PP). We cycled across the Laos border then took a 3 hr boat down the Mekong to get to the wild west town of Stung Treng and realised there was no reasonable way to cycle south so got a bus to Kratie.
Today we had a bit of a rest day and cycled only 32km north along the mekong to explore a set of rapids where very rare dolphin live. Nothing sighted though; except a local trying to extort $9 each for us looking at the view of the river from a bench!
We have a bus booked for PP tomorrow and then the day after next a boat back up to Siam Reap to finish off our cycling with day trips around the capital and the ruins of Angkor Wat.
Dad is well and hasn’t even been blessed with any butt explosions; however ‘this beer is very gassy!!’ has occured frequently as the Beer Lao has been experienced on a regular basis. I have many great photos to show you of our adventures in a week or so once I am near a computer I can actually use and trust.

End of a memorable tour- quite humid and hard riding in places but Laos is memorable whilst Cambodia still requires considerable help to improve the conditions of a happy and charming people-many photos later.
